Several of us birded Chico Basin Ranch (fee area), El Paso and Pueblo Counties today.
El Paso County portion (banding area, casita, bell grove area):
GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH - 1 found mid-day in the banding area with other thrushes
Veery - 1 (same area, only seen early in the morning I believe)
Hooded Warbler - 1 singing male, both early and later in the day (banding station)
Ovenbird - 1 singing (banding station), both early and later in the day
Rose-breasted Grosbeak - 1 male at the casita in morning
Northern Waterthrush - 1 in the wet area with willows, between the banding station and the Bell Grove.
Other things: Orchard Oriole, Ash-throated Flycatchers, Clay-colored Sparrows, MacGillivray's Warbler, Yellow-breasted Chat, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Black-chinned Hummingbird, Swainson's and Hermit Thrushes, Wilson's Warbler, Gray Catbirds, Spotted and Green-tailed Towhees, Chipping and Lark Sparrows, Yellow-rumped, Orange-crowned, and Yellow Warblers, among other things. We saw and heard the Northern Bobwhites as well, they are released birds.
Pueblo County portion (Headquarters, Rose Pond and Alfalfa field):
Northern Waterthrush - 1 at Rose Ponds (briefly)
Least Flycatcher - 1 at Headquarter Willows
Blue Grosbeak - 1 male at Rose Pond
some shorebirds and waterfowl at both the big Headquarters Pond and at Rose Pond (the water level at Rose is getting higher)
Some folks were able to see one of the released Chukars, near the Alfalfa field.
Hopefully I'm not forgetting too much, a fun day with a good group of people.
