Bill Maynard, John Drummond, and I birded Chico Basin Ranch (fee area) today. Since, a cold front went through last night, there were some migrants around today. Swainson's Thrushes (with just a few Hermit Thrushes) were all over the banding station (El Paso County), also here, there were two American Redstarts (one singing first year male), also singing Willow, Cordilleran, and Ash-throated Flycatchers, non-singing Least, Hammond's, and Olive-sided Flycatchers, lots of Western Wood-Pewees, a few Western Tanagers and a few Black-headed Grosbeaks, both Warbling and Plumbeous Vireos were seen, the only warblers, besides for the Redstarts, were Yellow and Yellow-rumped Warblers. Also, in the banding station area, were Lincoln's and White-crowned Sparrows, Western and Eastern Kingbirds, Blue Grosbeaks, and Lazuli Buntings. Ladder-backed Woodpeckers were present here as well.
At the Headquarters Pond (Pueblo County), there were four or more White-rumped Sandpipers, two Willets, and Wilson's Phalarope, as well as White-faced Ibis, and usual three species of teal and Shovelers, and Mallards. There were a few migrant passerines at both Headquarters and Rose Pond, though nothing really different than what was mentioned above.
Spring migration here in Colorado may not be quite over yet, unless you are heading out of the state soon, like me. I won't have any more chances to get to CBR this spring.
Good birding,
Brandon Percival
