Adams County:
--A singing Northern Waterthrush was reported by Zorawowicz at McKay Lake on May 17. McKay Lake is S of 144th Ave and E of Zuni.
--A m Hooded Warbler was reported by Cameron at McKay Lake on May 19. On May 20, Plage reported that the singing Hooded Warbler was still at McKay Lake.
Arapahoe County:
--An imm SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was reported by Rasmussen at Cherry Creek SP on May 17. It was seen south of the shooting range in Windmill Creek/Pond Area off of Jordan Rd.
Broomfield County:
--A Cassin's Kingbird was reported by Zorawowicz at Plaster Reservoir on May 17.
Eagle County:
--A Least Tern was reported by Filby at Spring Park Reservoir in El Jebel on the islands at the south end, near the dam on May 16.
Costilla County:
--An ACORN WOODPECKER and Summer Tanager were reported by Dexter at Smith Reservoir on May 21. The woodpecker was 200 yards N of the rest room. The tanager was in the drainage below the W end of the dam.
Douglas/Jefferson Counties:
--A Chesnut-sided Warbler was reported by Kilpatrick at Chatfield SP on May 21. It was in the Plum Creek area south of the parking lot and west of the bridge.
El Paso County:
--On May 16, Getty reported a singing Hooded Warbler at Bear Creek Nature Center in Colorado Springs. It was just east of the Visitor's Center around the wooden boardwalk.
--A f Northern Parula was reported by Pals on the Spring Count for Bear Creek Nature Center in Colorado Springs on May 19.
--3 singing Ovenbirds were reported by Burns on Stratton Open Space on the Gold Camp Path on May 20.
--A f ACORN WOODPECKER was reported by Bill Maynard at Cheyenne Mountain SP west of Fort Carson on Hwy 115 south of Colorado Springs. The woodpecker was close to the restroom in large Gambel's Oak.
El Paso/Pueblo Counties:
Chico Basin Ranch which is a fee area.
--On May 16, Percival reported a Yellow-throated Warbler and Yellow-throated Vireo at the Banding Station. Gobris banded a molting m Summer Tanager on May 16. Maynard found a m Indigo Bunting on the El Paso side on May 16. Percival reported a Northern Waterthrush at HQ on May 16. Drummond found a GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH at Rose Pond on May 16.
Gunnison County:
--A Fox Sparrow was reported by Korte on the Neversink Trail on May 20. The trail is at the E end of Curecanti Rec Area near Blue Mesa Reservoir.
Huerfano County:
--Wilberding reported HEPATIC TANAGER at Santa Clara Creek on May 16. Take Road 310 west, cross the RR tracks and continue for about 300 yards. This is private land so bird from the road. This spot will be visited multiple times during the CFO convention starting Thursday. DO NOT USE PLAYBACK. The HEPATIC TANAGER was seen again on May 20 by a CFO Convention Field Trip led by Bill Kaempfer. On May 21, Drummond reported a singing m Scott's Oriole as well as a singing m HEPATIC TANAGER at the Santa Clara Creek site.
--A HEPATIC TANAGER was found by Joe Roller's CFO field trip at Lathrop State Park on May 17.
--An American Three-toed Woodpecker was reported by Kaempfer and his CFO convention field trip 1.6 miles east of CO 12 on Hwy of the Ancients on May 20.
Lake County:
--An ad Glossy Ibis was reported by Kalbach at Crystal Lakes fishing pond on May 19. Crystal Lakes is S of Leadville.
--A Northern Waterthrush was reported by Kalbach at Crystal Lakes on May 20.
Larimer County:
--A m Scarlet Tanager was reported by Core at the home of Steve and Kathy Martin in Wellington on May 16. Please
contact Steve at falconridge AT cowisp.net to arrange visits.
--A Northern Cardinal was reported by Hall at the Federal Complex on Center Ave between Bldg A and Bldg B on May 18.
--A Northern Waterthrush was reported by Sparks on the N side of the Poudre BIke Trail about 120 ft W of N College Ave on May 20.
--An Indigo Bunting was reported by DeFonso at Dixon Reservoir on May 20.
Las Animas County:
--A Cassin's Kingbird was seen by a CFO Convention Field Trip led by John Drummond at Spanish Peaks SWA on May 18.
--A White-winged Dove was seen by a CFO Convention Field Trip led by Bill Kaempfer at Branson on May 18.
--A Black Phoebe with young on nest was reported by Bill Kaempfer in Gulnare on May 21.
--A pair of HEPATIC TANAGERS was reported by Neldner on May 20. Directions: They were .8 miles W of mm 65 on CO 12. There is a dirveway; pull off the road and walk toward a locked green metal gate. They were in the tallest Ponderosa about 75 ft from the gate. Please respect Private Property.
Saguache County:
--A Yellow-throated Vireo was found by Potter at Russell Lakes SWA near the parking lot on May 21.
Weld County:
--On May 16, Webb reported a f Hooded Warbler and f Black-throated Blue Warbler at Crow Valley CG. They were under the largest Cottonwood W of the covered picnic tables. On May 16, Core reported a singing Ovenbird in the NW corner of Crow Valley CG.
--A Glossy Ibis was reported by Bell on a pond on the S side of CR 74 at the entrance to Baldrige Estates E of Severance on May 14.
--A Kentucky Warbler and Cassin's Kingbird were reported by Core at Norma's Grove on May 16. Norma's Grove is at the intersection of CR 57 and CR 100.
--A f Indigo Bunting was reported by Chavez at Crow Valley CG on May 19.
The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, May 26 is Creative Ways to Learn Bird Sounds led by Alison Kondler (303-973-3959). Meet the leader at 0730 at Roxborough SP Visitor Center. Take S Wadsworth Blvd past Chatfield SP to Waterton Road on left. Take Waterton Road 1.6 miles east to North Rampart Range Road, turn right and go south 2.3 miles to Roxborough Park Road. Turn left and follow sign to the park (2.2 miles). Go to top parking lot. Participants must PRE-REGISITER at the above number during office hours. Colorado State Parks Pass or Day Fee required. The DFO Field Trip for Sunday, May 27 will be to Dawson Butte led by Kate Frost (303-740-6111). Meet the leader a 0730 at the Castle Rocks' McDonalds Restaurant. Dawson Butte is a good, gentle walking area which is slightly higher in elevation than Denver so you can expect to see mountain and foothill birds. Bring a picnic lunch and plenty to drink. Please call leader to register for this trip.
The DFO Field Trip for Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day) will be to Cherry Creek SP led by Mary Keithler (303-771-1421). Meet the leader at 0800 at the Marina on the west side of the park. This will be a half day trip, ending around 11:30 so lunch is optional but do bring water and snacks. Trip will involve easy walking on trails.
