Second day with reasonably good numbers and fun birds. 31 banded and 1 return (plus lots of recaps-mostly Yellow Warblers-from earlier days this season which I’m omitting from the report):
Least Flycatcher 1
House Wren 2
Marsh Wren 1 (FOS, likely only 1 of season)
Gray Catbirds 6
Yellow Warbler 12 new, 1 banded last year
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Audubon’s 1 (FOS – POR FIN!)
Common Yellowthroat 1
Yellow-breasted Chat 2
Western Tanager 1
Song Sparrow 1
Lincoln’s Sparrow 1
Black-headed Grosbeak 1
Lazuli Bunting 1
Did a little review of data last night. Our numbers are way down this year (40% lower than the same days last year). Seem to be missing birds that would be passing through. The opposite seems to be true with our likely resident Yellows and Catbirds – they are coming back slightly sooner and/or in greater numbers. Haven’t check the House Wrens or Chats yet, although they seem to be down.
Don’t know what today’s heat will bring, except a likely early closing…….
