Checked out one of my fav birding spots this afternoon - the east side
of White Ranch Open Space just north of Golden. It was very very
quiet. Maybe it's early, maybe it's a slow migration, I don't know,
but there was very little bird activity. I did hear a couple of
lazuli buntings, and saw one of them. Got a few pics, but haven't
looked at them yet. Heard several spotted towhees, and saw one yellow-
rumped warbler. That was about it. No grosbeaks, no yellow warblers,
none of the usual summer residents. It is terribly dry there. The
wildflowers are turning crisp and drying up. The little creek is
barely trickling. Usually a torrent this time of year. Not good.
