Hi all,
Monday in the Roaring Fork Valley:
Bright, sunny early morning gave way to snow, hail and moderately heavy rain this afternoon, clearing by this evening.
Looks like quite a lot of fresh snow higher up, above 9,500 feet. Decidedly chilly “down here” !
Just as the rain set in, the Harris’s yard (rural Carbondale) briefly hosted a 1st summer male Summer Tanager, and their neighbor, Jim, hosted a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak briefly too. Other arrivals included many more Black-chinned and Broad-tailed Hummingbirds, along with Western Tanagers, Black-headed Grosbeaks, and Bullock’s Orioles.
Spring Park reservoir, Eagle County:
Common Loon (alt)
35 Red-necked Phalaropes this evening, in one tight mobile flock
24 Wilson’s Phalaropes this evening
3 Marbled Godwits
1 American Avocet
1 (Long-billed) Dowitcher - distant
20 Franklin’s Gull early morning, but most flew off NW, leaving 4 still this evening
Many thousands of Tree Swallows this evening
Good birding all
