While looking for Burrowing Owls at the prairie dog town 3.4 mi east
of 96th and Tower on the DIA Owl Loop, I saw a bird I didn't
recognize. It was on a prairie dog mound in the distance, I thought it
might be an owl until I looked more closely with binoculars and camera
zoom. After consulting sources online, I'm pretty sure this was an
Upland Sandpiper. After a few minutes, it strolled off the mound and
rummaged around in the grass as though it was looking for food.
I haven't seen one before, so I could be wrong, but it sure looks like
other Upland Sandpiper pictures I see online. I posted a photo at
http://goo.gl/ZbAhN - it was some distance away, this somewhat fuzzy
pic is the best shot I got. If I'm wrong, let me know. Ok, let me know
either way. Thanks.
