For the past two somewhat warmer days up here at 8500' in Woodland Park, I have had a swarm of bee-like flies (or bees) in my sunflower chip tube feeders. So many in fact that the birds cannot use them. The bees do not carry away or eat the seeds. They just dig them out so that they can get inside the tube and dig some more. They ignore the niger and the whole black oil seeds and the peanut butter - lard bird cakes (which often attract wasps) or the rotten banana I put next to the feeders to attract/distract them. Any ideas what these bugs are and how to manage this situation? I would love to import some bee-eaters,but that is impractical :)
Thx.
Dave
