Thanks for all the helpful and informative responses.
I agree with the possibility that the bees eating some powdered grain or pollen on the sunflower chips.
I have solved the problem for now by putting the chips back in the bag and putting out millet instead.
I will put the chips out again in a few days and post the outcome.
