[cobirds] Harlan's Hawk in Canon City and 5 Black Phoebes now around Canon City Area

At mid-day today I spotted a Harlan's Hawk in a cottonwood tree adjacent to the Arkansas River, presumably just passing through on it's way to it's far north breeding grounds.  I got a few photos of it that I have uploaded to my Birds and Nature blog.

In the past several days I have found 5 Black Phoebes including 3 on private property (including one today checking out the nest site first used in this area), the have reported on since mid-February in Florence River Park (east of Florence by Sanitation District), and now one under the bridge over the Arkansas River on MacKenzie Ave on the east of Canon City.  Most are engaged in lengthy song bouts interspersed with strings of 'tier' calls that usually last several minutes and  more than 10 minutes at a time on occasion.  The purpose appears to be territorial advertisement and as a way to attract a female.

Heard then saw my first Common Grackle today, ironically not in the riparian or wetland areas but in my neighbors yard.
