The immature female Snowy Owl on the north side of John Martin Reservoir
was present for a fifth consecutive day today. It prefers rocky bluffs
or low spits close to the water in an area about one and one-half miles
west of the Overlook Point Picnic Area on the north side of the reservoir.
I am continuing to request that birders try to stay in their vehicles
while looking for this bird. It is flighty, but tends to perch in one
place for many hours if not disturbed. So far, birders have been good at
following this simple request. A Snowy Owl this far south faces plenty
of challenges not related to being flushed by careless birders. Let's
continue to give it the space it deserves.
Good luck!
