Hi COBirders,
Well, by now you've heard what a morning we had. Not a lot of birds, but an interesting warbler flock of unusual single birds. Seen together in different combinations : Nashville, Townsend's, Black-and-White, Worm-eating (recaptured, and later seen throughout the grove), Orange-crowned (several m/f), and the male Golden-winged Warbler seen and photographed, then caught and banded (and more photos) about 11am. Too much fun.
Banding report: 21 new birds banded:
Sharp-shinned Hawk 1 (SY f)
Red-breasted Nuthatch 1 (SY m)
House Wren 1
Hermit Thrush 4
Orange-crowned Warbler 7
Golden-winged Warbler 1 (SY (second-year) m) photos available
Chipping Sparrow 6
Recaptures of note - the Worm-eating Warbler from yesterday (photos available), Spotted Towhee, Orange-crowned Warblers, Am Robin.
and a half of a Eur Starling left by the Sharp-shinned Hawk - we didn't try to band it.
As Brandon mentioned on another post - both the Worm-eating and Golden-winged Warblers were measured with very little fat. They MAY be around for a little while to stock-up before they continue on their way.
Happy Migration,
Steve Brown
