We have the impression of a slow migration with fewer birds & species. But -- a grosbeak surprised us at the feeder this morning, Rose-breasted. He doesn't have the crisp marks of a full-breeding-plumage male -- brown in the wings, sort of tentative black in parts of the back. Nonetheless, rose triangle on his breast, gleaming white below that to the tail. He allowed a few mediocre photographs.
Our hummingbirds likewise haven't overwhelmed us -- a female Broad-tailed showed up Apr. 22, and a male Apr. 28; one Black-chinned male spent a minute at the feeder on Apr. 26. Now one male and one female Broad-tailed (as far as we can tell). Common Poorwill now calls every evening, often late into the night (morning?).
