[cobirds] Cassin's Sparrow, Boulder County, June 19th

Hello, Birders.

Well, it's (almost) the summer solstice, so time to look for Cassin's Sparrows in Boulder County. Sure enough, this morning, Tuesday, June 19th, I saw two Cassin's Sparrows (and audio-recorded one of them) in the Coalton Open Space of far southeastern Boulder County. According to Google Maps, I was on the Meadowlark Trail. The birds were at 39.9379 N, 105.1721 W in entirely looking appropriate habitat: grass, various other forbs, and a nice patch of yucca.

At the trailhead at the intersection of McCaslin and Coalton, I saw 4 Lesser Goldfinches. One of the males had a nearly all-black back, with just a few small flecks of dark green.

Great viewing of Venus before sunrise. It's low in the eastern sky, and its crescent shape is easily discerned through binoculars.
