Baca County:
--In Cottonwood Canyon on June 6, Leatherman reported a singing m Indigo Bunting and Greater Roadrunner.
--In Cottonwood Canyon on June 9, Larry Arnold reported a m Painted Bunting fighting with a m Lazuli Bunting.
Boulder County:
--A singing Indigo Bunting was reported by Nunes at the South Mesa Trail Parking Lot on May 30. A singing Indigo Bunting was reported by Hansley on the top of a dead tree just south of the Dunn House on the South Mesa Trail on June 3. On June 7, Floyd reported a singng Indigo Bunting at the east side of the parking lot for South Mesa Trail.
--On June 7, Floyd reported a singing Ovenbird along the middle spur that connect Shadow Canyon and the Mesa Trails. On June 15, Heinrich heard an Ovenbird on the South Mesa Trail about 75 - 100 yards south of Bear Canyon Creek where a shortcut trail leads uphill to Bear Creek Trail.
--On June 8, Nunes reported a singing M Hooded Warbler a few hundred yards south of the Bobolink Trail parking lot on Baseline Road. The warbler was in the greenbelt heading south. On June 9, Hutch reported a m Hooded Warbler and possibly a f about 50 yards from the picnic table on the trail going south from the Bobolink Trail parking lot. It was in the cattail marsh on the E side of the creek side trail.
--On June 9, Kwong reported a Hooded Warbler by the Gregory Canyon Parking Lot. Floyd reported on June 10 that the Hooded Warbler was still by the Gregory Canyon Parking Lot.
Douglas County:
--A singing Carolina Wren was reported by Huffstater on the Plum Creek Trail in Castle Rock on June 11. It was just south of the trail intersection located south of the south end of Jerry St. On June 12, Walbek refound the Carolina Wren in the same spot and provided these directions. Take the I-25 Wilcox exit (middle exit) in Castle Rock. Go South 5 or 6 blocks to Second St. Turn left and park immediately on S side of Second St across from Dazbogs Coffee. Take the side walk that becomes Plum Creek Path. Go under the bridge (Wilcox St). Go west 100 yards to where another paved path meets the Plum Creek Trail. The bird was singing sporadically from trees here. On June 13, Walthen refound the Carolina by going under the Wilcox Bridge then go a little west to a side concrete trail that goes south from the Plum Creek Trail and found the bird in trees above this side trail. On June 14, Roller heard and saw the Carolina
Wren in the area described by Walthen.
Eagle County:
--A pair of American Three-toed Woodpeckers was reported by Filby on Basalt Mountain at about 7800 feet on June 12.
Las Animas County:
--A Hepatic Tananger was reported by Leatherman on his Villegreen BBS route on June 6.
Mesa County:
--The BLACK-CHINNED SPARROW parents were observed feeding a young bird in No Thoroughfare Canyon in Colorado NM on June 4 by Teuton. Henwood refound the BLACK-CHINNED SPARROW family in No Thoroughfare Canyon on June 5. Henwood believes that there maybe as many as four fledgings. On June 7, Craven reported seeing 1 ad and 1 fledging BLACK-CHINNED SPARROWS 250 yards downstream from the first pool on the No Thoroughfare Trail.
--A Caspian Tern was reported by Wilson flying over the river near Corn Lake heading downstream on June 7.
Montrose County:
--White-wing Dove was reported by Harris in Vineyards in SE Montrose on June 6.
Otero County:
--In the Higbee area at the far W end of Purgatoire Canyon, Leatherman reported an Eastern Phoebe on June 6.
Prowers County:
--A Northern Cardinal fledgling was reported by Leatherman at Lamar Community College Woods on June 7.
The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, June 16 will be to Barr Lake SP led by Ira and Tammy Sanders for a half day trip. Looking for breeding birds in woodland and riparan habitats. Trip will begin in the NW portion of the park. Meet at RBMO parking lot at 0700. At 0830 will drive over to the Nature Center and continue birding until noon. You will need a State Parks Pass for entrance to the park. Bring sunscreen, bug repellent, water, hat. This trip is suitable for beginners.
The DFO Field Trip for Sunday, Jun 17 will be to the Lyons Area led by Raymond Davis. Meet Davis at 0830 at the Lyons Park-n-Ride just south of 4th and Main St (by skateboard park and library). Plan on walking on level ground for a mile or three, a bit of car birding, then eating lunch on Davis's decks. Wheelchair accessible.
