Andrew Core and I had a fun day birding around Park County. Seems as if there is not nearly enough time, even during a June day.
Antero Reservoir was incredible, with the biggest highlights being shorebirds:
47 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS
20 SANDERLING
3 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS
1 BLACK-NECKED STILT
1 Baird's Sandpiper
Also of note there was a COMMON TERN and a HORNED GREBE, both in alternate plumage
Some of the numbers were fairly staggering, including 860 White Pelicans, 800+ Canada Geese, 99 White-faced Ibis, and probably 500+ dabbling ducks.
A PEREGRINE FALCON was frequently strafing the area.
10 Black Terns and a Forster's were also present
Out of Como, heading up towards Boreas Pass, the first stream crossing (only a mile or so out of town) had 1-2 singing YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS, which may represent a first county record.
Finally, near Fairplay, we had a pair of courting Ferruginous Hawks.
