We spent most of our time yesterday in the grasslands, not at Crow Valley campground. We were rewarded with a wonderful view of a Mtn. Plover performing a distraction display (broken wing act, dust bath) right in front of our car! Shortly, we found out why-- a tiny plover chick was running in the middle of the road behind our car. We just watched, hoping that another car would not come over the hill before the chick decided to get off the road. It finally ran over to the side and we moved on, wondering how many more chicks were hidden in the ditch!
