[cobirds] Plains birding results on Friday

Today Kathy Mihm-Dunning and I birded various plains migrant traps. Most of
Spring Migration is done, but there are still stragglers coming through
(this will continue through most of June).

Swainson's Thrushes were found in every migrant "trap" (such as Last Chance,
Akron, Prewitt, Crow Valley Campground and "Norma's Grove", etc.). Also at
every treed location that we visited were both Bullock's and Orchard
Orioles.

Crow Valley Campground also held a molting male Summer Tanager as well as a
VERY late Orange-crowned Warbler. Also interesting were a pair of Northern
Bobwhite in northwestern portion of the campground.

Norma's Grove had a female Western Tanager.

Prewitt had 37 White-rumped Sandpipers and a Semipalmated Sandpiper in the
shrinking reservoir nearest the main entrance "station".

McCown's Longspurs were skylarking along Murphy's Pasture on the Pawnee
Grassland (Weld County Road 96 north of Crow Valley Campground). Also
present were several Brewer's Sparrows (some singing) and a Cassin's Sparrow
perched on the fence line.

So migrants are still moving through and/or wandering around Colorado. Keep
getting out there as this is the time that most people stop birding for the
summer and when odd/rare things can and do show up. :-)
