[cobirds] DFO data on eBird

Hi all:

I wanted to take this opportunity to publicly thank Hugh Kingery and others who have spent no little time submitting to eBird (www.ebird.org) the voluminous data from various Denver Field Ornithologists' (and other) field trips, particularly the data from the DFO Spring and Fall counts.  Those data sets greatly increase the scope of analyses that can be done on Colorado eBird data and current and future researchers will greatly appreciate it, singing hosannas for the responsible folk.

This is not a small task, as it encompasses literally decades of data and innumerable species name changes.  It requires a lot of work just to get those sorts of things -- such as the earlier data reporting Yellow-bellied rather than Red-naped sapsuckers -- squared away.  As one of the Colorado reviewers of eBird data, I have sent Hugh countless queries for details on species odd for the location and/or date, and he has probably spent hundreds of hours tracking down such details for me so that I can happily validate the records.  Even had Hugh done nothing else for Colorado ornithology, this task would earn him high praise from me and others.

Thanks, Hugh!  And may all have a great Independence Day!
