[cobirds] Huerfano County Update: Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Dickcissels, Bobolinks, Virginia Rail, Wilson's Snipe

It was a lovely, cool, overcast morning in La Veta and led to some very enjoyable birding! Sitting on the side porch listening to the dawn chorus full of Spotted Towhee, Yellow Warbler, American Robin, American and Lesser Goldfinch and the partial call of a Yellow-billed Cuckoo.

Next we, after breakfast at Ryus Avenue Bakery, we headed toward County Road 360, where an obliging Virgina Rail crossed the road in front of us, Dickcissels were calling all around, with one male who showed himself quite well. The fields have started to be cut. We did locate 3 male Bobolinks...and hopefully their field (as it is sub-irrigated) will be allowed to grow a while longer. They will probably soon be gone. As we turned to head home a Wilson's Snipe lit on a fence post for us! Lots of Red-winged and Yellow-headed Blackbirds, and Common Yellowthroat.
All in all a great morning of birding!
