[cobirds] Young fledgling kestrels, and owls, climbing trees

A few months ago there were several posts regarding birds using their wings to climb trees. This morning I watched a just-fledged kestrel use its wings to help it climb up a cottonwood trunk.

In addition to the young American Kestrel fledgling I reported on July 29 as climbing a tree with assistance of wing flapping, I observed a very young Western Screech-Owl do the same a few days ago.  It is documented that fledgling Western Screech-Owls and other species of owls do but still haven't found anything documented on American Kestrel with Ruth Cushman's observation the only other I have seen.

I wonder if this may be a case of selective observation.  That is, we all focus very carefully on any baby owl we find but maybe we are less studious in our observation of baby kestrels??
