[cobirds] Magnificent Hummingbird - Larimer County Foothills

Nancy and I were enjoying our coffee out on our bedroom balcony early this morning when to our great astonishment, a huge hummingbird zoomed over our heads and checked out our hummingbird feeder.  It did not stay to feed, probably because we were too close, but flew to the top of a nearby aspen.  Fortunately, Nancy had her camera ready with its 400 mm lens and was able to get several photos of it before it disappeared.  I have posted a photo on our blog:  www.bellbirdramblings.blogspot.com.  The bird had all the characteristics of a Magnificent Hummingbird, including the erect crest.  We will file a rare bird report, as requested by CFO.  We believe this is an extremely unusual occurrence in this area.  We live at 8000 feet 40 miles northwest of Fort Collins.  We wonder if the bird is ranging far because of the drought and recent fires along the Front Range and further south in New Mexico.
