[cobirds] Walden and Sawhill Ponds Osprey courtship

Denver Field Ornithologists birders visited Walden and Sawhill Ponds this morning and found 37 species of birds and a drowsy raccoon.

Highlights included courtship flights by the Osprey pair, three Canada Geese on nests and a fourth one building a nest, and 14 Great Blue Herons at the heronry, some carrying sticks.

Among the ducks were 4 male and 1 female Cinnamon Teal. There  were about 6 Tree Swallows including a pair visiting a nest box. The quirkiest find of the day was a raccoon spotted by Dick Pratt sleeping on top of a squirrel nest.

The dipper nest under the 75th Street bridge was occupied with only the occasional flash of the nictitating membrane giving the bird away.
